Project update February 2023

Tregea Street/Morris Street footpath complete!

The 295 metre footpath along Morris and Tregea Streets has been completed. We thank Tregea Street residents and businesses for their patience while the footpath was built.

Upcoming project: Great Ocean Road/Morris Street roundabout at the top of the town

A roundabout on the Great Ocean Road/Morris Street in Port Campbell. There is a street light in the centre of the roundabout.

One of our next projects will be the roundabout at the Morris Street / Great Ocean Road intersection (at the top of town).

Works involve changes to the intersection that channel vehicles (especially buses) to turn right down Morris Street instead of using the Old Ocean Road and Cairns Street hill to access the town centre.

We are currently seeking quotes from contractors and will keep you updated on when works start.

V/Line bus stop

If you’re planning to catch the bus near the Surf Club, please note the bus stop will be located further up at 16 Tregea Street (near the Sow and Piglets) from 8 February.

This is a temporary move until the bus stop moves permanently to Lord Street (opposite the tennis courts) once the town centre project is finished.

2023 Works Package Tender

Tenders for the 2023 Works Package close in late February. The good news is, we have a number of interested contractors and a successful tenderer should be selected and ready to go after Easter.

This package focuses on Lord Street, Cairns Street and the foreshore. Works include:

  • Suspended decking under the Norfolk Pines in Lord Street
  • Foreshore upgrades
  • Feature pavements, stone and timber seating
  • Phone charging stations and street furniture upgrades

Rory Neeson departs

Council’s Manager Growth and Engagement Rory Neeson has accepted a new position at Southern Grampians Shire Council. Rory’s last day at Corangamite Shire is Friday 3 February.

Rory stepped up to manage the Town Centre Project in December 2019 after Ian Gibb (former Director Sustainable Development) departed. We thank Rory for his work and wish him well in his new role.

Project Manager Aaron Huttig will continue to be available at the site office in Lord Street every Wednesday or give him a call on  0434 053 465.
