Project update April 2022

Construction tender update

The Town Centre Project tender was advertised widely from December 2021 and closed on 11 February with some interest, but unfortunately no submissions. Market conditions, COVID impacts, staff shortages, and the timing of the tender were cited as some of the reasons for lack of tenders.

With this in mind, we are looking to split the tender into different sections to allow smaller companies to bid for the project. A tender for 2022 works will now be advertised this month. This will change the works schedule (see April Beacon update for timeline).

Appointing a Project Manager

We will soon appoint a Project Manager/Coordinator with technical expertise to help deliver this project.

Stay tuned for an announcement on this role very shortly.

Project office

Council will lease a space in the vacant Alcove Cafe building to use as a site office during the construction phases. The Project Manager will be based at this site and residents will be able to drop in to view plans, speak directly to a staff member, or ask questions about the project.

Thank you

Thank you to business owners who attended a meeting at Grassroots Deli Cafe in early March to raise concerns around safety, parking, traffic flow and impact on business and trade.
